Massif de la Clape, exploring between land and sea

Between limestone cliffs, wild trails and inspiring encounters, discover how the Massif de la Clape and the village of Gruissan became the setting for an unforgettable human adventure.

Day I

Verticality and local flavours

The call of the rock: Via Corda and adrenaline

At dawn, the group meets up. Among familiar faces and newcomers, the excitement is palpable. After crossing the landscapes of the Montagne Noire and Alaric, we reach our destination: the Massif de la Clape. This ‘pile of stones’ (in Occitan) is aptly named, but it hides treasures of biodiversity.

Under the expert eye of our guide Phil, the adventurers get kitted out: harnesses tightened and helmets adjusted. We begin a via corda along the cliff face. The effort is worth it: at the top, the Mediterranean offers us a mesmerising blue view. The descent is done by abseiling, a breach in the limestone marking the passage to the next stage of the adventure.

Heritage and oenology: A sensory journey

The walk continues towards the famous Chapelle des Auzils chapel. Like a lighthouse towering over the holm oaks, it guides our steps. It is here that the group’s chemistry comes into play, between pushing ourselves beyond our limits and sharing experiences.

But La Clape can also be discovered through the palate. Emma, our chef and oenologist, offers us a taste tour through the Languedoc-Roussillon region. Mineral, sweet or sparkling wines… each glass tells a story of time and geology.

Sustainable transport and a ‘galactic’ dinner

The afternoon picks up pace on our all-terrain scooters. Despite a puncture that quickly turns into a moment of genuine camaraderie, we reach the lookout point for a 360° panorama.

The day ends on a high note. Chai Soleilla welcomes us for a theatrical tasting.

Before ending the day with a 7-course gourmet dinner in the Moon Room, orchestrated by chef Laurent Chabert. A ‘galactic’ experience to strengthen bonds.

DAY II

The soul of Gruissan and the spirit of the coast

Between land and sea: authentic encounters

The second day is all about learning and people. Accompanied by Hugo, we cycle through the pine forests.

Beneath the majestic flight of flamingos, we reach the dry port of Gruissan to meet Hervé, a local fisherman. His candid account of the impact of global warming reminds us of the fragility of this sanctuary.

Biodiversity and local expertise

The road continues along the pink salt marshes, an unreal landscape created by endemic algae. Further on, Dominique opens our eyes to the migrations of birds that inhabit the region.

Because a Mikado adventure is inseparable from the pleasures of the table, we have punctuated our itinerary with gourmet stops showcasing the gems of the Aude region. From Antoine and Mathéo’s craft beers for refreshment to Gruissan oysters enjoyed in front of fishermen’s huts for a taste of the sea, each break showcases local products. This sensory journey ended with the famous pine nut tart, an essential speciality for any seminar or micro-adventure in Occitanie.

Conclusion on the heights of the Barberousse Tower

To bring this loop to a close, Elodie, our local guide, tells us the story of the Barberousse Tower that watches over the village. As we descend back to our starting point, there is a real sense of camaraderie.

This micro-adventure in La Clape was not just a simple trip; it was a necessary break to better reconnect with others.
